Agia Roumeli beach, Chania Crete |

At a distance of 56 kilometers from Chania at the South, just at the exit of the Samaria gorge it is found the beach of Aghia Roumeli, which is actually the beach in front of the homonymous village. It is a nice long pebbly beach, at the middle of a wide cove, affected only by the southern winds. |

Well organised, it offers some accommodation facilities, food and drink and facilities for swimming and sunbathing ( sun beds, umbrellas, sea sports ). The beach is pretty popular to the hikers who cross the Samaria gorge because of the refreshing swimming they can enjoy, before taking the last boat to Chora Sfakion and the return bus to Chania. Access from Chania is possible by public bus till Omalos (38 kilometers) and then on foot via Samaria Gorge (18 kilometers, 6-10 hours). Access from Palaeochora, Sougia, Chora Sfakion and Loutro is possible only by boat. |
