Situated 76 kilometers far from Chania, at the Southwest, at the Western coast of Crete, there is the important Monastery of Panaghia Chrysoskalitissa (meaning “with golden steps”); it is uncertain when it has been built. The old tradition of the Monastery pretends that one out of the 90 steps dug in the rock and leading to the top is made of gold (hence its name); however, only the sinless are able to distinguish it.

The nearby small bay of Stomio with a rocky coast is worth seeing for its natural beauty and the view it offers to the visitor.
