The E4 or 4 th European Path is a walking and climbing path, starting from the Atlantic coasts of Europe, in Portugal, and after having passed through almost the whole of Continental Europe, Spain, France, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, and Bulgaria, it ends up to Crete after having crossed the whole of Greece from North to South. The part of Crete starts from Kissamos (Kastelli) at the cape Cavonissi, it continues down to Elafonissos, goes through the whole of Crete, divided twice in two branches and then reuniting again; after having reached Kato Zakros in Lasithi, it turns again to the North and ends up at Siteia at the eastern edge of Lasithi.

The path is signaled well enough with signals of black and yellow colors. As walking is the best way to really know a place, E4 gives to the visitor the chance of discovering places and people off the usual tourist destinations and thus more authentic; moreover, it offers the possibility to come across landscapes which you could never reach otherwise.
