Falassarna was an independent Doric city – state, that flourished mainly during the Classic and Hellenistic periods. It served as the port of the inland Polyrheneia. The city was destroyed by the Romans; ruins of various periods are visible, as traces of cyclopean walls, a stone carved throne, which has been found at the nearby village of Koutri, and the ruins of a temple, possibly dedicated to Apollo or Artemis (Diana). |
