Situated 82 kilometers far from Chania, at the Southwest, Elafonissos Lagoon is one of the most famous beaches all over Crete. It is not affected by the “meltemia” (northern summer winds), but since it is open to the south, it is affected by the southern winds blowing from the Libyan Sea, which are not very rare in summer.
It has pinkish sand and shallow water, which makes it very popular and it is too crowded because of the tourist buses arriving massively in summer. Things are better in the afternoon and evening, after the last bus has left and the place finds its original rhythm, offering calmness relaxation and fascinating sunsets. |
