Situated 88 kilometers far from Chania at the South coast and 9 kilometers far from Palaeochora at the west, Koundoura is a rocky beach with big pebbles, which make it not good enough, especially for those liking smooth, sandy beaches.

Also it is open to the south and thus it is rather affected by the southern winds, not very rare in summer.

Not organised, with no accommodation and food or drink facilities.

Access from Chania is possible by public bus (up to Palaeochora) and by rented or private car and motorbike.
