Situated 16 kilometers far from Chania, at the West, just off the Old National Road to Kissamos (Kastelli), Maleme is a beach at the northern coast, so it is affected by the “meltemia” (northern summer winds). The beach is touristy developed and offers accommodation facilities, food and drink and some facilities for swimming and sunbathing.

At a small distance from the coast it is found a German airplane, sunk during the battle of Crete, a relic reminding the hard days and bloody struggles that took place on the island during the World War II.
