The Kazantzakis' Museum is found at Varvari, 20
kilometres far from Heraklion at the South. The aims of the Museum is
to collect all the material concerning the the great Greek author Nikos
Kazantzakis, whose origin was from Crete, and display it to the visitors
so that they know more about him.
The collections comprise various personal items of the author, family
souvenirs, as well as all the greek editions of the works of the author,
the most important being the first editions. The visitor can also find
manuscripts of the author, translation of his works in more than 50 languages,
a rich collection of photos, sculptures and other artwork, the programs
of the plays - both in Greece and elsewhere- of the theatrical pieces
Kazantzakis wrote, maquettes and parts of scenery.
There is also a special display of radio and cinema material, as well
as of the press concerning activities relative to the author and his
work. There is also a video projection of his biography in 5 languages:
greek, english, french, german and dutch.
Access to the Museum is possible by public bus, rented and private car
and motorbikes. |
