The beach is very well organised, offering good
accommodation in several hotels and rooms to let and food and drink in
taverns, restaurants and cafes; facilities for swimming and and sunbathing
(sunbeds, umbrellas ) and sea sports are also available. Being close
to to Heraklion and to Limenas, it gets crowded in summer.
And, if you feel like wandering around, the beach of Stalida at the West, the
quiet beach of Potamos and the beaches of Lasithi at the East, are some of the
choices you have.
Access from Heraklion is very easy following the National road; public
buses run frequently and you can always use a taxi and of course rented
or private cars and motorbikes.
Potamos Beach
The beach of Potamos is in fact the very eastern end of the long sandy beach
of Malia. Situated at a distance of 38 kilometres far from Heraklion at the
East, it is open to the North and affected by the northern winds. Although
very close to the tourist resort of Malia, it is a rather quiet beach, a good
choice or those wishing to avoid big crowds on the beach and in the sea. |
