Not organised and remote enbough, the beach doesn't
offer any facility for swimming apart from the crystal clear sea, isolation
and bright sun. In the small settlement the visitor of the 21st century
will take an idea of how life used to be in Crete some 3 decades ago,
before the quick development and the invasion of mass tourism. A few
rooms to let are available if you feel like staying overnight and the
tavern (only one!) of the settlement will offer you fresh fish and seafood,
tasty local dishes and, of course gorgeous wine and "tsikoudia".
Access from Heraklion is possible only by rented or private cars and
motorbikes, via the village of Viannos and Sidonia. From Aghios Nicolaos
you will arrive to the beach via Myrtos. In both cases, you have to drive
for 3 or 4 kilometres respectively, on a dirt track. |
