The small pebbly beach in front of the camping “Gournia” is situated 19 kilometers southeastern to Aghios Nicolaos, on the main road leading from Aghios Nicolaos to Sitia and Ierapetra. The beach is found within a small cove and is well protected from the winds.

Although not fully organised, the beach presents many advantages. Being between Istro and Pachia Ammos (at a distance of 7,5 kilometers at the West and 3,5 kilometers at the East, respectively) and in front of a camping, it offers various accommodation facilities and good food and drink; besides, it is a nice beach. For swimming you have also the alternatives of Istro and Pachia Ammos.

Being around, don’t miss to visit the homonymous important archaeological site, where it has been excavated a Late Minoan settlement.

A local feast (“panighyri”) takes place on the 15 th of August, in honor of the Assumption of Holy Mary, at the Monastery of Faneromeni, 8 kilometers southwestern to the beach.
