Koutsounari beach, Lassithi Crete |

The long sandy beach of Koutsounari is situated at a distance of 42 kilometers far from Aghios Nicolaos at the Southeast and 7 kilometers Eastern to Ierapetra. The beach, which is really very long, starts from the camping of Koutsounari, eastern to the homonymous tourist resort and continues for several kilometers eastwards, almost up to Aghia Fotia. The beach is open to the South and affected by the winds blowing in the area. Due to its location near the tourist resort, the beach offers facilities for accommodation in numerous hotels of all categories, rooms to let and organised camping. Food, drink and amusement are available both at Koutsounari and at the near by town of Ierapetra, where you will also have the chance to enjoy exciting nightlife. |

The beach is very well organised and attracts hundreds of people. However, as it is very long, it never gets too crowded. The eastern part is not organised, with no facilities, as sunbeds and umbrellas; as a result, this part is much more peaceful. Once in the area, you have several alternatives for swimming at the beaches (organised or not) of Ierapetra at the West, up to Makrygialos at the East. Access from Aghios Nicolaos is possible by rented or private car and motorbikes. From Ierapetra you can also catch the public bus to Sitia, or use a taxi. |
