The short gorge of Pefki is situated at the southern coast of Crete, it has a length of some 4 kilometers, its entrance is found at the village of Pefki and descends down to the beach of Makrys Gialos.

You will set off the village of Pefki, at a distance of 7 kilometers northern to Makrys Gialos. Ask the locals to show you the entrance of the gorge and follow the wide and easy path beside the old, deserted windmill. Entering the gorge , you have to walk for less than one kilometer on the rim of the gorge; afterwards, you follow the path and descend at the riverbed. This short and easy walking of 4 kilometers is unforgettable: you will walk within the green of the pines; you will be attracted by the original white of the rocks around and the blue sky above. The fascinating landscape and the color variations make this excursion ideal for photographs; you cannot help stopping! Also, you will enjoy the heady scents of pines and wild flowers found all around. Walking within the riverbed, your route will be shadowed by the huge plane trees. And, after two hours of easy and relaxing walking, you will arrive at the beach of Makrygialos where the sea is calling you for a good swim.
