Makrygialos is a well-known tourist resort with a nice sandy beach, protected from the winds. It is situated at a distance of 58 kilometers far from Aghios Nicolaos at the Southeast, 23 kilometers eastern to Ierapetra and 3 kilometers western to the tourist resort of Analipsi. It has some 600 permanent residents.

The place combines the very nice sea for swimming with the wonderful natural environment and the possibility of excursions around and sightseeing.

You will enjoy swimming and sea sports at the well-organised beach in front of the settlement, with all facilities for swimming and sunbathing (sunbeds, umbrellas etc). If you prefer a less crowded beach you may pop off to the nearby beach in front of the archaeological site of the Minoan villa, at a distance of 2 kilometers at the East, or to Diaskari and Langada (4 and 5 kilometers, respectively, eastern to Makrygialos ); or, you may catch one of the excursion boats departing from the village and go to the islet of Koufonissi, where several wonderful beaches are waiting for you to enjoy them.

If you are fan of local feasts, you may take part to the local feast ("panighyri") in honor of Holy Virgin, on the 8 th of September, which takes place at the village of Lithines (12 kilometers northeastern to Makrygialos).
