Plaka, northern beach
The beach northern to the settlement of Plaka is situated at a distance of approximately 16 kilometers far from Aghios Nicolaos at the North and 5 kilometers northern to the tourist resort of Elounda. It is a pebbly beach, protected from the winds, with several tamarisk trees offering natural shade to the swimmers and a magnificent view of the Spinalonga peninsula.

Well enough organised and within the broader area of Elounda, the beach has access to a wide range of hotels, studios and rooms to let. Taverns, restaurants, bars and cafes are available for food, drink and amusement. It offers full facilities for swimming, sunbathing (umbrellas, sunbeds) and sea sports. The beach is considered as the best one in the area of Elounda; as a result it is usually crowdy.

In case of emergency, a local Medical Center is available at the port of Schisma in Elounda.

Access from Aghios Nicolaos and Elounda is possible by taxi and by rented and private car and motorbikes.

Plaka, southern beach
The beach southern to the settlement of Plaka is situated at a distance of approximately 16 kilometers far from Aghios Nicolaos at the South and 5 kilometers northern to the tourist resort of Elounda. It is a pebbly beach, protected from the winds blowing in the area.

Unlike the northern beach of Plaka, this one is not organised at all. However, as big hotels and other accommodation facilities as well as restaurants and taverns are close by, in the broader area of Elounda, there is no problem. Of course, the beach does not offer facilities for swimming, sunbathing and sea sports. The only thing you may find here is calmness and swimming in a crystal clear sea without big crowds around.
