Prasses, Rethymnon Crete |
Situated 12 kilometers far from Rethymnon, at the Southeast, Prasses is a small inland village with 115 permanent residents. Around the village there are several things worth seeing. The homonymous gorge is near by, its entrance is found at the South of the village and the visitor will spend some 3-4 hours to hike it. The environment is marvelous, with the impressive gorge forming high walls. Some places of the route present difficulties. However, this rather small gorge is fascinating, worth hiking if you like this kind of activities. It is also worth seeing the fort of Koules, close to the dam of the rivers and the Sima bridge. |

It is worth driving 10 kilometers at the Southwest of Prasses to the village Goudeliana, a small semi-mountainous village built at a height of 500 meters, on the slopes of Vrysinas, in wooded environment. At the South of the village is believed that was situated the ancient city of Osmis or Falanna, which flourished up to the Early Christian period, as it is shown by the ruins of the three-aisle basilica dating back to the 6 th century. Accommodation and food and drink are very few in Prasses. Access from Rethymnon is possible by public bus, with few services, taxi and -best of all - with rented or private car and motorbike. |
