The cave of Gerani is situated at "Kamari", 6 kilometers far from Rethymnon at the West, close to the beach of the homonymous village. The cave has six halls all with wonderful decoration of stalagmites.
As it happens in most of the caves, archaeological excavations have brought to light remains of human presence in the cave during the Neolithic period: human skeletons and Neolithic tools were found, as well as Palaeolontological finds, animal fossils, mainly deers, dated in the end of the Pleistocene. |
