On the plateau of Nida, 25 kilometers far from Anogia and 80 kilometers far from Rethymnon, at a height of 1500 meters on Psiloritis it is found the cave of Idaeon Antron. It is a very big cave with an impressive and huge entrance. It was a ritual place for a long period of time, from the Minoan period up to the Roman era.

According to the Greek Mythology it is here that Zeus, the king of gods and men was brought up, hidden from his father Cronos.

Excavations carried out since the late 19 th century have brought to light very important finds, among them bronze shields, seal stones, golden jewels, pottery and small items of metal. As excavations by the eminent Greek archaeologists Efi and Yannis Sakellarakis are still going on, access to the cave is not possible.
