Situated approximately 50 kilometers far from Rethymnon at the East, off the Old National Road to Heraklion and some 7-8 kilometers northern to the village Doxaro, the Vossakou Monastery is dedicated to the Holy Cross.

As it is evidenced by the inscription of the entrance it has been built in 1195 and since then it had suffered many destructions, the last being in 1821. The actual church was built by the end of the 19 th century, but the monastery was abandoned in 1950.

The last decades' works of restoration of the complex of buildings are being carried out and a few monks have returned to the Monastery.
