Agali, Folegandros Island |
Angali (the word in Greek means “bosom”) is a small coastal scenic settlement, amphitheatrically arranged above the bay of Vathy. It is situated at a distance of 3 – 4 kilometers far from the town of Folegandros (Chora). The settlement has no residents in winter and in fact it is a summer resort. Accommodation facilities are available in the settlement, but most of the visitors prefer to stay at Chora or at Karavostassi(s) and come here only for swimming and eating. The small taverns have good food and you will find tasty dishes and sometimes fresh fish and sea food. When at Angali you will enjoy the nice view of Vathy bay. It is a popular place, receiving many visitors who arrive daily by the excursion boats, by bus or on foot. Swimming is possible at the beach of the settlement, which is thought to be the best of the island, but also to the nearby beaches of Aghios Nicolaos (St. Nicolas), with the homonymous small church. The beach is a few hundred meters western to Angali. Southern to Angali, almost at the end of the bay you will find the beach of Fira. |

At a short distance from the settlement, close to the cape Aspropounta, you may visit the cute old lighthouse. Every summer, in August, the Nautical Association of Folegandros organizes swimming and sailing games at Angali and at Karavostassi(s). On the 6 th of August the locals celebrate the religious feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ with a local feast (“panighyri”) which takes places at the nearby homonymous small church. In any case of emergence, you should address to the corresponding services of the town of Folegandros (Chora). Access to the settlement from Chora is possible even on foot (some one hour of walking), as well as by the excursion boats departing from Karavostassi(s). If you prefer the car or the motorbike the settlement is only a few minutes drive from Chora. The settlement is also connected with Ano Meria. Finally, you may catch the public bus, with regular service, which connects Angali with Chora and once in the day continues directly for Ano Meria, or you may take the taxi, if available. |
