Livadi beach, Folegandros Island |
The long beach of Livadi is situated at the southern coast of the island, some 1200 meters southern to Karavostassi(s) and very close to the tourist settlement of Livadi with sparse population. It is a beach with sand and fine pebbles and the tamarisk trees along it offer some shade. It is the favorite beach of young people, who enjoy sports on the sand as beach volley, bat and ball and other, as well as sea sports. The sea is crystal clear and very clean. The restaurant of the nearby camping offers refreshments, snacks and meals. And, if you stay late at the seaside, you may enjoy music and a drink at the bar of the same camping. |

During summer, several music events take place at the beach. On Easter the process of the icon of Virgin Mary passes also from Livadi, on its way from Chora to Karavostassi(s). According to the Archives of the Community of Folegandros (a really nice edition), during the dictatorship of 1936 in Greece, some farmers exiled in Folegandros had farmed out a small estate at Livadi, where they cultivated several products, many of them unknown to the locals. For any problem, you may address to the services available at the town of Folegandros (Chora), some 6 kilometers to the Northwest. Access from Karavostassi(s) is very easy and short (some 5 minutes drive), by car and motorbike, via a good dirt road. If you like walking, you can also reach the beach on foot; or you may take the taxi, if available. |
