Monastiri or Agios Ioannis beach, Paros Island

The famous sandy beach of Monastiri (“Monastery”) is situated western to Naoussa, 7 kilometers far away from the town. Well protected and quite remote it is found within the rocky cove of Aghios Ioannis, some 13 kilometers northeastern to the town of Paros (Paroikia).

The area around, the town of Naoussa and the nearby beach of Kolymbithres offer various alternatives for accommodation and you will enjoy tasty food in the seafront taverns.

Although remote enough, the beach is very well organized, it has crystal clear very clean sea, thick sand and interesting rock formations that form a fascinating landscape. For all these reasons the beach is recommended for naturists. The seabed is smooth but a bit muddy and the sea is very shallow for more than 100 meters far from the coast. It is suitable for snorkeling and attracts numerous fans of the sport. A few beach bars always attract young people who come here to enjoy the sea and sun, but also music, parties and various happenings and games. For all this, it is one of the most well known beaches of the island.

At the right end of the beach you will see the Monastery of Aghios Ioannis, where the residents of Naoussa organize a local feast (“panighyri”) on the 29th of August, in honor of Aghios Ioannis (St. John).

Access to this excellent beach is easy by rented or private car and motorbikes. You will park your vehicle at the appropriate places on both sides of the beach.

You may also reach the beach by one of the excursion boats departing daily from the port of Naoussa to get numerous visitors to the beach. If you have a yacht, you will moor offshore.
