Both within the settlement and in the area around you may visit numerous churches, among which the church of Panaghia of Katavati or Angelochtisti (“built by the Angels”!), dedicated to Virgin Mary, the church of Aghios Andreas (St Andrew), situated on the homonymous height nearby, and the church of Aghia Marina, accessible on foot via the footpath leading there. Also, you may see the monastery of Panaghia of Fyrogia; in summer, apart from the monastery you may eventually see one of the artistic exhibitions of pottery or visual arts, organized there in July and August. It is also worth seeing the semi –ruined monastery of Taxiarches tis Skafis which still preserves traces of the frescoes of the altar; the monastery is accessible via a footpath. |

If you feel like walking, you may follow the footpath leading to the impressive monastery of Profetes Elias Ypsilos (“Prophet Elijah the High”) at an altitude of more than 600 meters; it will take you some 2 hours of walking. Once at Profetes Elias, you may see the fortified cells of the monks and the underground galleries of the monastery; the Catholicon of the old monastery goes back to the 8th century. On the height of Aghios Andreas you will see the prehistoric acropolis, with the impressive Cyclopean walls of the Mycenaean period. Finally, on the way to Vathy, at the site of Kade, you will see traces of a Neolithic settlement and visit the old tower. The feast of Aghia Marina on the 17th of July is celebrated with a local religious feast (“panighyri”), whereas another one takes place at the monastery of Prophet Elijah on his name day, celebrated on the 20th of July. |

For any problem the corresponding services of Apollonia, at a distance of only a few hundred meters northern to Katavati, are available for you. Access from Kamares and Apollonia is possible by public buses running frequently, by taxi and by rented or private car and motorbikes. As Katavati is very close to Apollonia, walking from one village to the other is also a nice choice. |
