Northeastern to Platys Gialos it is situated the White Tower, one of the most important towers of the island; through these towers the locals had developed a network of beacons, which would inform the people of the island in case of an imminent attack. At the site of Acroteriaki the eminent Greek archaeologist Christos Tsountas had spotted and discovered a prehistoric cemetery. Finally, across the entrance of the cove, on the uninhabited islet of Kitriani, you may see the old church of Panaghia Kitriani, dedicated to Virgin Mary. The church goes back to the 11th century and it is probably the most ancient building of Sifnos. The church has also an interesting icon screen made in the 18th century. You will enjoy swimming at the long beach in front of the settlement and at the beach of Lazaros. |
