Agathopes beach, Syros Island |
The sandy beach of Agathopes (meaning “thorny” in Greek) is a very original beach situated at the southwestern coast of the island; at this point a narrow strip of land enters the sea forming a unique calm and exotic beach excellent for swimming and relaxing. The beach is found some 14 kilometers far from Hermoupolis at the southwest and only one kilometer far from Poseidonia (Della Grazia); it also faces the small islets Schinonissi and Strongylo. |

This wonderful beach becomes lovelier in summer when the sand lilies are in blossom every where on the beach, whereas in spring the Mediterranean seals monachus – monachus come at this safe and hospitable beach to give birth to their babies. The beach is well protected from the northern summer winds and the sea is usually calm and safe. Several accommodation alternatives, as well as eating and drinking facilities are available at the beach. |

In any case of emergence you have to address to the corresponding services of the capital Hermoupolis, at a distance of 14 kilometers northeastern to the beach. Access from Hermoupolis is pretty easy by taxi and by rented or private car and motorbikes. You may also use the public buses to Poseidonia and Foinikas and get off at the station close to the beach. |
