Azolimnos, Syros Island |
Azolimnos is a coastal summer resort surrounding the homonymous sandy beach. The settlement is situated some 5 kilometers southeastern to Hermoupolis and counts about 300 permanent residents, most of them occupied in tourism. The small port for caiques and small boats makes the settlement very scenic and a pole of attraction for visitors. |

Several facilities for accommodation and other services are available in the village for those who will choose to spend their holidays here. Swimming is possible at the lovely beach in front of the settlement, as well as at the beaches of the area around; apart from swimming and sunbathing, most of them are also ideal for snorkeling and diving. Once in the village you may see the small church of Analipsi, dedicated to the Ascension of Jesus Christ, where a local religious feast (“panighyri”) takes place in summer, in late May or early June. |

On the mid – way to Hermoupolis, if you deviate for some 2 kilometers to the West, you may visit the cute village of Ano Manna, where you will see the nice houses of neoclassic architecture which used to be – and still are – the summer residencies of the locals. In the same area you may visit the churches of Aghioi Anargyri and the church of Faneromene, dedicated to Virgin Mary. From here you will also enjoy an excellent view. Beside the church of Faneromene it is situated the Wars’ Memorial. In case of emergence you should return to Hermoupolis, some 5 kilometers far away at the Northwest. Access to the village is easy, by public buses with frequent service, by taxi, as well as by rented or private car and motorbikes. If you have a small boat or yacht, the tiny port of the settlement is available for mooring. |
