It is situated at a distance of some 9 kilometers southwestern to Hermoupolis and counts some 400 permanent residents, most of them occupied in tourism. The settlement has also a small port for caiques, small boats and yachts. A wide range of alternatives for accommodation, along with high level facilities are available for those who will choose to spend their holidays here. |

Swimming is a real pleasure at the lovely long sandy beach in front of the village; if you stay there late in the afternoon you will also enjoy an excellent romantic sunset. You may also go at the nearby beach of Armeos. There are several things worth seeing in the settlement and the area around. Upon the homonymous hill, close to the settlement, you may see the small church of Aghia Pakou, a false pronunciation of “Aghia Ypakoe (“St. Obedience” in Greek); from here the view of the sea is fascinating. Just below the church, on the hillside you may see the archaeological site of ancient Galessos, a town that flourished during the Archaic period. At a short distance you may see the Catholic church of Sacre-Coeur (the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ). |

If you feel like exploring the place more, you may follow the footpath leading to the small church of Aghios Sefanos, situated within a cave by the sea. The church has also access from the sea: you will row for 10-15 minutes and then follow the footpath which will get you to the cave after a few meters of walking. If you are around on the last Sunday of August, don’t miss to attend the religious local feast (“panighyri”) taking place in the church of Aghios Stephanos in the cave. |
