Poseidonia, or Della Grazia as it is mentioned in the old popular songs, is a beautiful scenic coastal settlement receiving a lot of tourists, situated within a small fertile plain with green houses and nice beaches at the coast. It is found some 13 kilometers southwestern to Hermoupolis and counts approximately 650 permanent residents occupied in agriculture and tourism. The village has also a small port for small fishing and tourist boats.

Swimming is possible at the beach in front of the settlement, as well as at the nearby beaches of Agathopes (meaning “thorny” in Greek), with nice sand and an excellent view of the islet of Schinonissi across, and at the beach of Kometo.

Both in the settlement and in the area around it is worth seeing the villas with excellent architecture and lovely gardens. The villas belong to wealthy families of Syros who, in the past, used to spend their summer holidays at the place. The old name of the village is owed to the Catholic church of Madonna Della Grazia (Virgin Mary of Grace). Once in the village, you may also visit the old church of Aghios Ioannis Prodromos (St John the Baptist) dated in the 19th century.

During summer, a series of cultural activities are organized by the Municipality, whereas on the 29th of August a local religious feast (“pnughyri”) takes place in honor of Aghios Ioannis (St. John).
