Agios Stefanos beach, Kos Island |
The beach of Agios Stefanos is found at a distance of some 40 kilometers southwestern to the town of Kos and 3,5 kilometers northeastern to the well known and popular tourist resort of Kefalos. The rocks by the sea, usually full of nice wild flowers, are the most characteristic feature of the beach. Close enough to the sea you will also notice the ruins of two early Christian churches, with nice mosaic pavements. Unfortunately, very often the mosaics are covered with sand brought by the wind. Another characteristic of the beach is the small islet of Kastri, a solitary wild rock in the sea, opposite the beach. All these features form a wonderful landscape and make the place ideal for taking nice photos. |

The beach is very popular due to the golden sand and shallow waters, suitable for families with small children. In summer, especially in August, the beach is affected by the «meltemia» (northern summer winds). Well organized, it offers several swimming and sunbathing facilities (umbrellas, sun beds) and cool refreshments from the beach bar. Health services (a local Medical Center) are available in the nearby village of Kefalos, 3, 5 kilometers far away at the Southwest. Access from the town of Kos is easy by by public bus and by rented or private car and motorbikes. |
