Asklepieion is the most well known ancient monument of the island. When there was established the city of Kos, in the 4th century b.C., the small wood was considered as a sacred place, dedicated to Aesculapius. Later on, in the 2nd century b.C., when the Medical school established by Hippocrates a lot of people came to visit the place.
