If this beach is too wavy or you prefer a more peaceful environment you have the alternative of the beach of Myrtiotissa. Some two kilometers far from the settlement it is found the Holy Monastery of Panaghia Myrtiotissa (“Holy Virgin of the Myrtles”), with in a fascinating natural environment with myrtles and in front of a nice beach with crystal clear sea.
According to the local tradition, an Ottoman found the icon of Virgin within the myrtles; he changed his religion, became a Christian and established the Monastery, where he lived ever since as a monk. It is worth attending the great local feast (“panighyri”) at the Monastery of Myrtiotissa, celebrated in honor of Virgin on the 24th of September.
Hotels and rooms to let, both within the resort and in the area around are available for accommodation.
Food is excellent in the sea front taverns where you may taste fresh fish and the gorgeous kitchen of the island.
In case of health problems the health amenities of the town of Corfu are available. Access from the capital (Corfu, 16,5 kilometers far away) is possible by public buses (the green ones) running frequently, by taxi and by rented or private cars and motorbikes. |
