| It is worth visiting the church of Panaghia Kassiopitissa, which possibly has been built on the place of an ancient temple dedicated to Zeus Kassius.
You will also see the ruins of the Byzantine castle that used to protect the town and its port and was guarding the sea route from Corfu to the opposite coast. During the Venetian domination, the castle suffered extended damages by the Ottoman attacks and finally the Venetians used the building material to reinforce the castle of the town of Corfu. Far away in the sea, almost at the middle of the way to the Albanian coast, it is found Peristeres, a complex of small rocky islets with a lighthouse If you feel like wandering around, you may visit the village of Aghios Stefanos (some 3 kilometers southern to Kassiopi), built in an over green area within a small cove. It has a port for small boats and a pebbly, well enough organized beach for swimming. You may also go to the beach of Avlaki or Vourlias, 3 kilometers far from Kassiopi on your way to Aghios Stefanos. It is a small beach within a scenic small cove. Hotels and rooms to let, both within the village and in the area around are available for accommodation. Food is gorgeous in the sea front taverns where you may taste fresh fish and the tasty local dishes, along with a wide variety of dishes of Greek and International cooking. |
