You may combine swimming with a short visit to the church of Aghios Prokopios, or to the Monastery of Arkoudilas, found on the top of a low hill, with full view of the Ionian Sea, up to Paxi. Very Close to the Monastery it is found the cape Asprokaravos (meaning “white ship”), the most southern end of Corfu.
Or, you may visit the scenic villages of Neochori, Palaeochori and Kritika (at a distance 5-7,5 kilometers western to Kavos), where you will enjoy your coffee and a marvelous sunset.
Swimming is possible at the more- than-2 kilometers-long sandy beach in front of the village. The beach offers sea sport facilities, including a diving center both for beginners and for experts. The shallow sea and the sand make the beach ideal for families with small children.
If the weather does not allow swimming there, you may choose the beaches of Mikro Nissi, Kanoulas, Ai Gordis and Limnes. All of them are found at a distance of less than 10 kilometers at the South-Southeast of the village.
The place is one of the beloved destinations of young people. As a result it is full of trendy bars, clubs and various youthful haunts with loud but good music, fun and amusement all day round. If you like this kind of holidays, staying there or visiting the village will be an unforgettable experience.
Don’t miss to attend the local feast (“panighyri”) in honor of Aghios Prokopios on the 8th of July.
In case of health problems, a local Medical Center is available at Lefkimi (8 kilometers at the North). Access from the capital (Corfu, 49 kilometers far away) is easy by public buses (the green ones) with regular service and by rented or private cars and motorbikes (the latter being the best for touring at Corfu, if you are alone or a couple). |
