The old people state that the village owes its name (“nissaki” means “small island” in Greek) to the fact that in the remote past it was really an island that had been joined to the rest of Corfu. Today, a scenic tavern with a marvelous vies and gorgeous food has been established upon the rock of this “island”.
Accommodation is available within the settlement and in the broader area. It is an ideal place for those liking peaceful holidays, for elder couples and for people preferring a more traditional way of living during vacation. However, it is popular enough to younger people, as along with the peaceful village they have also the alternative of Kassiopi or Ipsos for more “hot” and intense moments and nightlife.
Food is abundant and good in the taverns of the area, where you may taste the local dishes, fresh fish and sea food typical dishes of Greek and international cooking.
Swimming is really a pleasure at the pebbly beach with crystal clear sea in front of the settlement. There are numerous small, almost private, coves around and you may choose the one you like more.
Or, you may choose the beaches of Glyfa or Barbati, close enough, at a distance of 4-5 kilometers at the Southwest, or even the beaches of Kaminaki, Krouzeri, Agni and the excellent Kalami, only a few kilometers far away at the Northeast.
In case of health problems you may address to the Medical Center of Cassiope (some 15 kilometers to the North) or to the Health Services of the town of Corfu (22,5 kilometers to the South). Access to the village from the capital (Corfu 22,5 kilometers far away) is easy by public buses (the green ones), by taxi and by rented or private car and motorbikes. |
