Once in the area, don’t miss to visit the scenic villages Doucades (5 kilometers at the Northeast), Lakones (6 kilometers northern to Palaeokastritsa), Makrades (9 kilometers at the Northwest). At Krini, some 10 kilometers northwestern to Palaeokastritsa, just before arriving to Angelokastro, you will also see the church of Aghios Nicolaos with a nice bell tower. It is also worth driving to the village of Lapades, at a distance of 5 kilometers at the East, within a marvelous verdant area and a magnificent beach just off the village, where you may also rent a boat for a romantic sailing around.
Hotels and rooms to let are available for accommodation within the settlement and in the broader area. The place is ideal for those liking to spend their holidays in a cosmopolitan environment with intense nightlife, but also with natural beauty.
You will find plenty and excellent food, from fresh fish and local dishes to international cooking, in the sea front taverns of the village and in the area around. And, if you wish to have only a light meal and refreshment, the numerous snack bars will satisfy your appetite.
You will enjoy swimming and sunbathing at the beautiful beaches in front of the village, or in the area around (like at Lapades), which combine sand, pebbles and small stones with beautiful rocks and crystal clear very cool water. Cold water is one of the most characteristic features of the sea in the area; even in full summer, the sea never gets hot.
If you wish you may rent a small boat and start exploring the broader coastal area: you will sail up to “Petrokaravo” (meaning “the stone ship), or Kolouri, as its official name is. The locals will tell you many stories and legends about this small rock in the sea.
Finally, if you like diving, a diving center is available both for beginners and for experts of the sport.
A series of cultural activities are organised in summer.
If you are around during the Easter period you may take part to the local feast (“panighyri” in honor of Zoodochos Pighi (“the Spring of Life”), celebrated on Friday following Easter.
In case of health problems, a local Medical Center is available. There is also a Port authorities’ Station. Access from the capital (Corfu, 23,5 kilometers) is easy by public bus (the green ones), by taxi and by rented or private car and motorbikes. Excursion boats depart daily from the small port of the village for several coastal villages of the island. At the port you may also rent a boat for a more solitary and romantic short trip. |
