The most important sightseeing of the village is the Folk Museum of Middle Corfu, with representations of a typical traditional house of Corfu and several collections of tools, vessels and many other objects of every day use of the period 1860-1960.
One of the most important exhibits of the Museum is the model of a “papyrella”, a small boat used during the Mesolithic period (8.000 b.C.), made of papyrus.
The area around Sinarades is full of churches, all of them very interesting. Within the village you will see the churches of Estavromenos (“Christ Crucified”), of Aghioi Pantes (“All Saints”) and of Taxiarches. All of them have nice bell towers.
In the village of Varypatades (a few kilometers at the North), it is found the church of Aghios Stephanos (St. Steven), while on a small rocky island near the beach of the settlement, you may see the small church of Panaghia “Kyradikaia” (“the Lady of Justice”).
It is also worth seeing the well, made of stone within the village and the site of “Aerostato”, 1 kilometer western to the village; from here you will have a breathtaking view of Aghios Gordios.
Don’t miss to visit the scenic small cove of Gialiskari and the rocky islets called “Litharia tis Nyfis” (“the stones of the bride”); according to tradition, a bride was abandoned on the islets by the pirates who had kidnapped her. |
