Galazies Spilies (meaning “blue caves” in Greek) are found at the area of Aspros Vrahos (“white rock” in Greek), southern to the Cape of Skinari, the most northern end of the island. The place is found at a distance of 35 kilometers northwestern to the town of Zakynthos.

The bigger of these famous caves it the so-called “turquoise cave”; its entrance was discovered only in late 19 th century. Their name is due to the vivid turquoise color of the crystal clear water.

Of course, no accommodation facilities are offered on site, but you will find hotels, studios and rooms to let at the settlement of Aghios Nicolaos, a few kilometers to the South, where you will also find some taverns for food and drink, the main menu being fresh fish and seafood.

Swimming at Galazies Spilies is an unforgettable experience; you will feel like being in an exotic world.

In case of health problems a local Medical Center is available at the nearby village of Volimes (11 kilometers at the Southwest). In Aghios Nicolaos you will find a Police Station.

Access from the town of Zakynthos up to Aghios Nicolaos (32 kilometers at the Northwest from the capital) is easy by rented or private car and motorbikes.

From there you will catch one of the excursion boats, which sail to Galazies Spilies (some 2-3 nautical miles far from Aghios Nicolaos at the North).

From the port of Aghios Nicolaos you may also catch one of the ferryboats that connect the place with Pessada of Cefallonia. The port of Aghios Nicolaos is well equipped to receive small yachts and boats for mooring and supplies.
