The excellent sandy beach of Gerakas is situated at the most southern end of the island, just before the cape Geraki. The beach is found at a distance of 17 kilometers southern to the town of Zakynthos. It is a paradise on earth, without hotels, bars taverns and big crowds. At this beach the tourists have to respect nature and live in harmony with the sea turtle.

If you are around in summer, you may watch the incubation of the turtles’ eggs. You should wake up very early in the morning, before sunrise and come to the place very carefully avoiding noise; you will see the tiny newborn turtles emerging from the broken egg and running to the sea.

Opposite to the beach, at a short distance, you will see the small islet of Peluso, uninhabited and also a place of reproduction of caretta-caretta.

Accommodation is available at the nearby tourist resort of Vassiliko, some 1-1,5 kilometers northern to the beach. You will find several hotels of all categories, studios and rooms to let, all with high quality service and facilities. They are open from the Easter period (April or May) until October.

Food is not a problem; several taverns with good local dishes but also Greek and international cooking are available, both at Vassiliko and in the area around.
