The beach is crystal clear and swimming here is really a pleasure. Apart from swimming, you may also catch one of the excursion boats for a tour at the beaches and the numerous caves of the southern part of the island, or rent a small boat available at the port. The most well known among them is “Mavri Limni” (the “black lake”), accessible only by small boat. Entering the cave, just after some 10 meters, the visitor finds a lake at the interior whose water seems to be black, due to the lack of natural light. The whole thing sounds a bit hair-raising, but if you are spirited enough and equipped with an electric torch, you may swim in full safety, and enjoy the effects of the few light on the water and the rocky walls of the cave.
If you like diving, a diving center is available for you; there are organised safe diving excursions, where you will visit several places with transparent sea and small caves and have the opportunity to enjoy the seabed with the multi-colored fishes, octopuses and lobsters. And, if you are lucky enough, you may come across the sea turtle swimming nearby, tame and friendly. If you like such activities, take your video camera and go ahead!
For health problems, a local Medical Center is available at Pantocratoras (9 kilometers at the Northwest); in the same village there is also a Police Station.
Access from the town of Zakynthos (20 kilometers far away) is easy by tourist buses, taxi and rented or private cars and motorbikes. |
