The long and wide beach in front of the cosmopolitan, popular and noisy tourist resort of Laganas is situated at a distance of 11 kilometers Southern to the town of Zakynthos and is considered as one of the bigger and nicer beaches of Greece and of the Mediterranean sea. This is not a word of the locals; all visitors will agree with them after the first visit. The beach is some 9 kilometers long (official measurement), sandy in all its length, with a fantastic crystal clear blue sea. Being so, it is not a surprise that it attracts big crowds, which make it very lively and quite noisy. But even this is considered as an advantage, especially by younger people.

Swimming and sunbathing is certainly the main activities when at Laganas. But if you wish to leave the beach for some time, there are several interesting places and monuments worth seeing both in the settlement and in the area around.

Just at the beach you may see the monument in honor of Andre Vesale, the famous anatomist of the 16 th century who died on the island. In close distance from the resort (from 2 – 5 kilometers far away) you may visit the villages of the area and see beautiful mansions (Saracina) and interesting small churches (Pantocratoras, Lithakia). In every place you will have a wonderful view, so take the chance to take photos. And, if you feel like going farer, you may drive up to the village of Agalas, some 11 kilometers western to Laganas, where you may visit the cave of Damianos. Finally, you may visit the three small islets within Laganas bay, Pelouso, Marathonissi and Aghios Sostis.

Food and drink are abundant and good; a wide range of taverns, snack bars and bars are available to choose from, in the settlement, on the beach and at the nearby beaches. You will taste fresh fish and seafood, along with local dishes and Greek and International cooking. Laganas has several clubs and bars, haunts for young people; amusement, good music and “hot” nightlife is one of the pros of the place. There are so many such alternatives that some visitors say that at Laganas there is more bars, clubs and other places for amusement than buildings of different use.

What to say about enjoying the beach? You will fully enjoy swimming, sunbathing and some sea sports activities (not very extensive because of the presence of the sea turtle). The beach very well organised and with full facilities;

For health problems, a local Medical Center is available at Pantocratoras (4 kilometers at the Northwest); in the same village there is also a Police Station.
