Once in the village, it is worth visiting the old interesting churches, as that of Ypapanti, dated in the 14 th century, very important both for its architectural style and for the decorating features (stone carved lintels of the doors and a nice wood carved icon screen). The church of Aghios Timotheos, also of the 14 th century, has a very interesting wood carved icon screen and a bell tower of Venetian style. Unfortunately, the third interesting church of this period, Aghia Maura, was ruined in 2005, after a fire. The church was a very good sample both of the churches of the period, with interesting decorating features and icons.
It is worth driving to the nearby, village of Koiliomenos, built on an altitude of 480 meters, some 7 kilometers western to Mahairado. In the past, the village was famous for the good quality building material (mainly stones) it produced; most of the luxurious mansions were built with stone from Koiliomenos. The village has interesting churches as that of Kyria ton Angelon (the Lady of Angels), dedicated to Virgin Mary and of Aghios Nicolaos, with a nice bell tower.
At a distance of 5 kilometers northern to Koiliomenos, there is the Holy Monastery of Yperagathos, belonging to the Sinai Monastery; situated at a wonderful place, very close to a small plateau with a beautiful wood of pines and perennial oak trees, it is certainly worth the visit.
