The islet of Peluso is situated within the Laganas Bay, 2 nautical miles far from the opposite beach of Dafni. The sea is wonderful with crystal clear water and the sand of the beach is so fine and white that you think it is flour. You will not find any other traces of human presence on the island, apart from an old ruined building. But you will come across turtles and several kinds of fish.
The islet is rocky and there is a small cute cave at the southwestern coast.
Everything here is perfect then. Everything ? Unfortunately not , because you will face two major problems. Firstly you cannot access the islet by boat, as it is found within the area of protection of sea turtles and navigation is not allowed. Secondly, for the same reason, staying on the islet after sunset is forbidden.
Thus, the only way to enjoy this fascinating natural environment is to reach the island swimming. From the beach of Dafni, it will take some two hours of swimming; so don’t forget to have some provisions with you and a canoe, where you may relax for a while. And, of course, it is better to have some company too. |
