Tragaki, Zakynthos Island

Tragaki is a beautiful scenic village, inland but close enough to the sea, situated within an overgrown area with extended olive groves. It is found at a distance of 11 kilometers northwestern to the town of Zakynthos and counts some 650 permanent residents.

A lot of hotels of all categories, studios and rooms to let are available for accommodation in the village and the inland area around; you will also find a well organised camping, offering full facilities, good prices and a more casual staying.

The area around is ideal for short excursions and you have several things worth seeing. You may visit the Monastery of Spilia (meaning “cave” in Greek). The Monastery owes its name to the tradition that it was in a cave that was found the icon of Virgin Mary, to whom the Monastery is dedicated. The Monastery is found on a hill, an ideal place to take photos and enjoy the view of the olive groves below.

It is also worth visiting the small church of Aghios Constantinos; close to the beautiful beach of Pahia Ammos, you will see the Venetian watch tower (“Vardiola”), with an interesting blazon walled in the building.

Food is abundant and good both in the taverns of the village and of the neighboring tourist resorts. You will choose from a good variety of dishes, from fresh fish and seafood to international cooking.

Swimming is possible at the well-organised beaches of Drossia, Pahia Ammos, Kato Tragaki, Ambula and Buca, most of them close to the village and well organised with swimming, sunbathing and sea sport facilities.

A series of cultural activities are organised in summer, most of them presented at the theater Avouri. There are theatrical plays both for adults and for children, concerts and music evenings, as well as plastic arts’ exhibitions and many happenings.

For health problems, you may address to the health services of the nearby capital Zakynthos, 11 kilometers far away at the Southeast.

Access from the town of Zakynthos (11 kilometers far away) is easy by taxi and by rented or private car and motorbikes.
