Agios Konstantinos, Samos Island |
The village of Agios Konstantinos is a beautiful coastal village situated at a distance of 18 kilometers northwestern to the town of Samos, on the circular coastal road to Karlovasi. The village is composed of two settlements, Ano (upper) and Kato (lower) Aghios Constantinos. The village counts some 400 permanent residents, occupied in agriculture and, recently, in tourism. In Ano Agios Κonstantinos there is the homonymous church that gave its name to the village; the church, as well as the whole village is hidden in a pretty thick wood. The lower village has been built in the 19th century and is inhabited all year round, whereas the older upper one gets alive only in summer. The two settlements are less than 500 meters far away from each other. Both villages are found within an environment with abundant current water and luxuriant vegetation. Traditionally, the locals were occupied in agriculture, mainly in vineyard and olive trees cultivation, but recently they have also turned to tourism which is being rapidly developing in the area. |
