Chora, Samos Island |
Chora is a scenic old big inland village, situated on the junction of the inland road network; it is found at a distance of 3 kilometers northwestern to Pythagorio, at the northeastern part of the homonymous plain, and some 13 kilometers southwestern to the capital town of Samos. Until 1854 this village was the capital of the island, while nowadays the area houses the airport of Samos. Chora counts some 1500 permanent residents, the majority of them living mainly on tourism and to a lesser extent on agriculture. In the past the culture of tobacco used to be the most developed one, but after the World War II, it gradually declined. |
