Ηydroussa, Samos Island |
7 kilometers southwestern to Karlovassi it is situated the village of Hydroussa, a village chocked with gardens, vineyards and woods. The actual name of the village is due to the abundant current waters of the area, but in the past it was called Fourni (meaning “kilns” in Greek), after the numerous pottery kilns it used to have; pottery seems to have been well developed in the village since ancient times. |

Hydroussa is one of the older villages of Samos and its existence is evidenced before 1625. The main occupation of the residents is agriculture; in the past the main product was tobacco, whereas today the most important cultivations are those of vineyards, olive trees and vegetables. For any health problems, a pharmacy and a local Medical Center are available at the nearby town of Karlovasi, some 7 kilometers northwestern to Hydroussa. Access to the village from Karlovasi is possible by taxi; from other places on the island you may reach the village by rented or private car and motorbikes. |
