The village owes its name to the numerous chestnut trees that existed in the area in past times. In the past the people lived on timber-felling, since local timber was in great demand. Today, the main occupation of the locals is viniculture. From Kastania, you may continue to Marathokambos; the junction is found at the spot where the electricity windmills are. |
