Some 4 kilometers far from Karlovasi, on the way to Samos, it is situated the settlement of Aghios Demetrios and another kilometer to the South it is found the village of Kontakaeika. The village has abundant current waters and considerable well watered cultivated areas; the village supplies with vegetables the entire island. Apart from the open-air fields, there are also several green houses. In the past, the main cultivation of the village was that of tobacco.

One of the most scenic places of the village is the small port and the coastal settlement of Aghios Nicolaos, the settlement most at the North of the island, a settlement rapidly developing and attracting many people in recent years. The village counts some 340 permanent residents.

In case of health problems, a pharmacy and a local Medical Center are available at the nearby town of Karlovasi, some 5 kilometers western to Kontakaeika.
