According to the local tradition the village of Myloi (“mills” in Greek) is the first village constructed in Samos after the period of the depopulation of the island. The village is found at a distance of 8 kilometers far from Pythagorio. In the past it had the Turkish name Kilitzkioi (“the village of Kilitz”, the Ottoman admiral, to whom Samos belonged), but later on it took the name Myloi, due to the numerous watermills that existed in the area. The village is situated at the western part of the plain of Chora, close enough to river Imvrassos. The area around is full of fructiferous trees, mainly citrus trees. In the past, the main agricultural product of the village was tobacco.
