Pagondas, Samos Island |
The village of Pagondas is situated southwestern to Myloi and 12 kilometers far from Pythagorio, on the eastern mountainside of mountain Bournias. The village owes its name to the settlers who came here from the almost homonymous village of Pagodas, in Euboea. The previous name of the village was Krimizkioi, which in Turkish means “the red village” and it was named so, because of the red earth the locals used in the construction of their houses. |

The residents of Pagondas are occupied in agriculture, especially with the cultivation of olive trees. One of the most important settlements of Pagondas is the settlement of Heraeon, a place rapidly developing in tourism and well known from the ancient temple of Hera. Another settlement of the village is Kolona, a tiny settlement counting only 35 permanent residents. |
